Durham and RTP work we're known for

We were moving Durham businesses before Research Triangle Park existed. The jobs below are the kind we are hired for; two are named because they are already public, and the rest are described by type because our commercial clients' moves are their business, not our marketing.

  • Duke University Department of MusicTrusted to move all of the department's instruments, including concert grands that go onto a stage and come back off.
  • Duke ChapelInstitutional move on the Duke campus, with controlled loading access arranged ahead of the day.
  • RTP research labsBench equipment, instruments that must stay upright or powered, and a sign-off step before anything is disconnected.
  • Medical and dental practicesDiagnostic equipment and patient records under a documented chain of custody.
  • Law and accounting firmsCase files in sealed, numbered containers; heavy libraries; executive furniture.
  • University departments and schoolsSummer-window moves built backwards from the day staff return.

How an office moves without losing a working day

The expensive part of an office move is not our invoice. It is the payroll you burn while thirty people cannot work. Every commercial move we run is sequenced against that number.

Weeks before

Walkthrough and written quote. Two labeled floor plans, one for each space. Certificate of insurance filed with both buildings, freight elevator windows reserved, internet circuit at the new space ordered and tested.

Friday

Employees pack their own crate with their destination code. In the afternoon the network gear, switches and server rack move, and are racked and powered Friday night.

Saturday

Furniture, workstations, files and equipment move. Masonite floor and door-jamb protection in both buildings. Every item lands at the desk its label names.

Sunday & Monday

Sunday is for exceptions and testing, not moving. Monday morning someone is on site early with a printed list: every workstation on the network, phones, printers, conference rooms, coffee.

Commercial moving questions, answered

The questions every office manager asks before booking, starting with the one about the weekend.

Can you move our office over a weekend so we do not lose a working day?

Yes, and that is how most of our office moves run. IT (network gear, switches, the server rack) moves Friday afternoon and is racked and powered Friday night; furniture, files and workstations move Saturday; Sunday is for exceptions and testing. Monday morning the office works. Weekend and after-hours moves are standard for commercial work, not a surcharge-only option.

How is a commercial move priced?

After a walkthrough. Office moves are quoted on crew size, truck count and the hours the job will take, with building requirements (freight elevator windows, floor protection, loading dock slots) and any specialty items (safes, lab equipment, server racks, large-format printers) priced in up front. The walkthrough and the written quote are free, and the quote is the number you pay unless the scope changes.

Can you provide a certificate of insurance for our building?

Yes. Most Triangle office buildings, especially in RTP, downtown Raleigh and American Tobacco, require a certificate of insurance naming the building owner and property manager with specific coverage limits before a mover is allowed on the freight elevator. We issue one on request and recommend getting it to both buildings six weeks out. We are licensed in North Carolina under NCUC-628.

Do you move IT equipment, servers and lab equipment?

Yes. Workstations, monitors and peripherals are packed per desk with a destination label; network gear and server racks are moved first and separately so they can be powered before the furniture arrives. Laboratory and research equipment from RTP and university facilities is handled with its own plan, including items that must stay upright or must not be disconnected until a technician has signed off.

How do you handle confidential files, patient records and client documents?

Sealed, sequentially numbered containers with a documented chain of custody from the old cabinet to the new one. For medical, legal and financial offices this is the part of the move that is regulated, so ask us about it directly at the walkthrough and get the answer in writing.

How far ahead should we book an office move?

Six to eight weeks gives time for the two labeled floor plans, the certificate of insurance at both buildings, the freight elevator reservations and the internet circuit at the new space, which is the item that most often slips. We can move faster than that when a lease date forces it; the paperwork is what takes the time, not the truck.

Do you move businesses outside Durham?

Yes. Commercial moves run across the Triangle: Durham, Research Triangle Park, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Cary, Morrisville and the surrounding towns, as well as relocations into or out of North Carolina.

Industry-specific detail

Healthcare, legal and financial moves carry regulated records; labs and tech offices carry equipment with its own rules; schools and government work to a calendar and a procurement process. The pages below cover what changes for each.
